A 13-year-old girl could face potential murder charges after she fatally stabbed a 16-year-old girl during a fight in the Everest informal settlement last Friday afternoon.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said the teen had been sent to the shop by her mother and when she came back with blood on her nose, she told her mother she had been in a fight with another girl.
The mother left it at that and carried on with her work.
Later on, she heard a commotion outside and went to investigate.

She saw her daughter and the victim fighting.
The mother then saw the victim fall to the ground with blood on her chest.
She tried to help the victim, who was then taken in a private car by her family.
When the mother looked for her daughter she discovered she had fled the scene.
It is alleged the injured girl was taken to Far East Rand Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival with a stab wound to the chest.

The 13-year-old was later brought to the Springs Police Station for questioning, accompanied by her parents.
During questioning, it emerged she was armed with a knife during the fight and had concealed it in her jacket pocket.
She said she only intended to scratch the victim with the knife, not stab her.
Once the police interview was conducted, she was taken to a place of safety for her own protection.
