Hairdresser fights for R150 000 prize money
“I have lost all my working tools worth R150 000 and now I am trying to rebuild. Winning this prize money is my only hope." .
Tsakani – Local multiple competition winner and hairdresser Lazarus Shumbane is casting his net even further in the hair industry.
He is one of the 10 contestants on the new local reality show, Cut above the rest, airing on S3, previously known as SABC3.
The show, which premiered on October 25 at 21:00, will see 10 hairdressers fighting for the prize money of R150 000.
The 28-year-old explained the competition is judged by hair expert and cosmetology educator Mimmi Biggar, who is the head judge.

She is joined by expert guest judges from the fashion and beauty industry.
The owner of ProLove Hair Academy and Salon in Ekurhuleni has been in the hair industry since the age of 14.
“I used to volunteer at a local salon, where I learned the basic skills of working with hair.
“When I grew older and attended workshops, I learned that those skills were dangerous and damaging to my client’s hair.
“Through the years, I have mastered the art of cutting, colouring, styling and weaving,” he said.
He added he is hoping to win the competition to invest the money in his hair academy.

“My salon was vandalised and burned down last year during a service delivery protest. I was mugged and robbed of over R20 000 of the company savings.
“I have lost all my working tools worth R150 000 and now I am trying to rebuild. Winning this prize money is my only hope.
“This will help me fulfil my dream of sharing my skills with other young people and up-and-coming hairstylists in the African hair space,” he added.
