Vultures captain plans to take the team to greater heights

Local rugby team captain shares his vision for this season's league.

Captain of St Helen’s Vultures Springs Gustav Brits (25) has been with the team for over a year now.
Although they lost last season’s league finals, Brits and his teammates have started their first two games on a high note.
“Before joining the team, I was in New Zealand and played for the Barbarians,” said Brits.
He fell in love with rugby league (which differs from rugby union) just by watching the game. He was just fascinated by crouching, how they moved the ball and the rules.
Brits was in Pretoria when he was called up to join the team.

“It was an honour for me to be selected to be captain. It is a huge responsibility,” he said.
“Being part of this amazing team has brought joy to my life. We have been doing well and have kept our name high.”
Brits said working with coach Alan Chapman has brought blessings into his life and career.
“He is a straightforward person, especially when it comes to training. All he wants is for us to become better players. We are grateful for him pushing us to achieve even more,” he said.
His ambition is to win the league this season.
