The body of a Grade Seven learner was found at a local school on Wednesday morning.
According to Springs SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Themba Tshabala, the learner was found face down in the restrooms.
“A teacher had sent another learner to check on him since he had been gone for a relatively long time. The deceased was found lying face down gasping for air.
“The other learner quickly called the teacher and first aid was applied,” explained Tshabalala.
Paramedics were called and the child was certified dead on the scene at around 10:58.
The police were summoned to the school.

“As is a procedure, his school bag was searched for any substance that can assist in the investigation,” added Tshabalala.
He said a note was found in the boy’s belongings. An inquest docket has been opened with the police.
The Gauteng Department of Education expressed sadness at the learner’s death.
“We wish to convey our sincere condolences to the family and the entire school community. The cause of death is not known to us as the police are still investigating.
“Our psycho-social support team was immediately dispatched to the school to provide the necessary support,” said Steve Mabona, the GDE’s spokesperson.
