UPDATE: Taxi drivers continue action against nyaope addicts

Taxi drivers are tired of the socio-economic issues that drugs are bringing to Springs.

Taxi drivers are continuing their actions in the CBD today (Wednesday) in an effort to deal with drug users that plague the town.

The drivers claim crime is on the rise due to nyaope addicts stealing the personal belongings of commuters and defecating at the taxi rank.

The action, which started in the CBD yesterday, resulted in some of the suspected drug addicts’ property set on fire.

The drug users have also been chased away from the places where they are usually seen.

Another aim of the drivers, as they claim, is to target the people responsible for bringing drugs into the town and to drive them out.

Taxi Association PRO Lyric Tau says he gives the drivers his blessings to make the town a safer place.

“I support their initiative and give my full support. But the association and I condemn the use of violence or methods that are outside the scope of the law to achieve it,” he said.
