Load-shedding has become a contributing factor for rise in crime
Residents of Springs have to be more careful than ever as criminals are taking advantage of the country's load-shedding reality.
The Springs SAPS is warning everyone to be vigilant as there is an increase of criminal activities due to the increased frequency of load-shedding.
This is after a rise in reports of cable theft and cases of ATM bombings have gradually escalated.
Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala mentioned how criminals are taking advantage of the new load-shedding reality to cause havoc for locals.
“Criminals have gotten bolder and braver since we have started receiving frequent black-outs. They take advantage of the situation and target businesses and homes in the cover of darkness,” warned Tshabalala.
He warns residents to be careful and aware as law enforcement needs the help of local communities to tackle the problem of crime.
“The SAPS always works with the CPF to better monitor and combat crime in the town.
“We encourage community members to work hand-in-hand with their CPF groups or to become members themselves to have increased patrollers on the streets,” he said.
Residents are asked to be on the look-out for any suspicious activities and not to be dismissive if something does not look right.
“Members and residents should report any and all suspicious activities or movements within their neighbourhoods. They should also take note of any suspicious or unfamiliar vehicles within their communities,” added Tshabalala.
