A wealth of knowledge awaits
Tennis coaching is available at the Selection Park Tennis Club.
Michael Ritchie and Mike du Toit are the Selection Park Tennis Club’s eldest members and agree that staying active keeps them fit and sane.
But beyond that, Ritchie hopes to impart the wealth of his knowledge to upcoming tennis players.
“I had the distinction of learning all aspects of the game at the hands of one of the top four tennis coaches in the world, the late master professional Dennis van der Meer, who had also coached Billie Jean King and Margaret Court,” said Ritchie
He is an additional tennis coach at Selection Park to resident coach Pieter Stolz and is a registered TSA professional coach.
Ritchie trained at the world-famous Van der Meer Tennis Academy at Hilton Head Island, Southern Carolina, USA and completed Tennis University and Advanced Tennis University.
“I then stayed on at Hilton Head and assisted with coaching their junior world-class training programme, as well as adult clinics,” he added.
In the late 1980s, he coached at Camp Wayne All Sports Summer camps, the first year as assistant tennis director and the following year as tennis director.
