Enderun College lends a helping hand
The Helping Hands initiative has been the running theme for the school for the year.
Enderun College Springs recently organised a stationery drive as part of their Helping Hands initiative for term three.
The drive culminated in a substantial donation to a local community centre, Thandabantu Community Care Centre, in Geduld.
Teacher Tasneem Seedat Matwadia, who founded the stationery drive, said she aimed to address the pressing need for educational supplies at the centre, which had been grappling with a shortage of basic stationery items crucial for learning and development.
“This remarkable initiative not only showcased the students’ commitment to making a positive impact but also reinforced the importance of giving back to the community,” she said.
The drive started in July and ended on August 30. It was met with an overwhelming response from both learners and staff.
Once the collection period concluded, monetary donations were used to purchase an array of essential supplies such as notebooks, book covers, files, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, sharpeners and colouring pencils.
A group of learners and teachers undertook the responsibility of carefully organising the donated supplies.
“Each item was meticulously sorted and packaged to ensure a smooth and organised handover to the care centre,” said Matwadia.

On August 31, a group of Grade Nine learners and teachers, headed by Martinus Meyer, delivered 20 boxes to the centre.
“This heart-warming initiative not only underscores the importance of education but also highlights the empathy and compassion that flourish within our local community. As the school year progresses, it is clear that the lessons of generosity and social responsibility learned through this stationery drive will continue to resonate with the students of Enderun College,” said Matwadia.
She said the efforts of all show the endless kindness that everyone embodies.
“In times when communities face various challenges, Enderun College’s stationery drive exemplifies the power of collective action to bring about positive change, reminding us all of the boundless potential for goodwill and kindness within our midst,” she added.
