Local karateka excel at national champs

Seven KWF Springs Karate Club members took part in the Karatenomichi World Federation SA Senior Championship last Saturday.

The event was at the Portuguese Hall in Johannesburg.

In the yellow to purple belt mixed gender kata division Moranang Digomo, a blue belt, took the gold medal.

In the yellow to purple belt mixed gender kihon ippon division, Divine Sithole, an orange belt, took the silver medal and Moranang Digomo the gold medal.

In the brown and black belt men’s kumite division Francois van Eck, a brown belt, took the bronze medal.

After the championship, a national grading took place where one member, Dewald Duvenage, got a black belt.

“I am very proud of the achievements of all our contestants,” said sensei Fanie du Plessis.
