Gingers close off 2023

The first game for 2024 will be held on January 28.

The last Ginger’s game for the year was played on Saturday at Pollak Park Golf Club. The golfers tried to avoid the hot conditions by teeing off at 06:30, but by the fourth hole it was swelteringly hot.

A very enjoyable day was had by all and many golfing stories were swapped after the game while sitting under the trees with cold refreshments in hand.

The day was concluded with Christmas lunch and prize-giving.

The winners of the day were:
• First: Steve Jeffrey (40 points)
• Second: Dave Nagel (37 points)
• Third: Craig Campbell (36 points)
• Milk tart doubles: Steve Jeffrey & Harvey Scott (45 points)
• King of the shorts: Ria Visser (11 points)
• Longest drive: Chad Burnhope
• Nearest to the pin in two: Iain Pinkerton
• Closest to the pin: Chad Burnhope
• Longest day: Ian Garnett

The yearly winner’s points were calculated as an average of their best eight games over the year. Each player also receives an additional two points per game they play throughout the year.

Allan Morgan and Dave Nagel played all 12 games.

The yearly winners were:
• First: Allan Morgan
• Second: Dave Nagel
• Third: Thys Franken
• Fourth: Rob Bryans
• Fifth: Jayden Gould
• Sixth: Adrian Lavelle
• Seventh: Akan Naude
• Eight: Michelle Scott
• Ninth: Harvey Scott
• Tenth: Liz Sinclair

“A special mention goes to Rob Bryans for winning best gross over eight games making him our best overall player for the year.

“A very special thank you goes out to Pollak Park Golf Club for keeping the whole course in such good condition throughout the year, as well as their friendly staff that prepared our braai every month.

“We also want to thank all the Ginger’s players who make this enjoyable and friendly monthly event and look forward to seeing you all again next year for our first game on January 28.

“We would like to invite new players to join us, so please contact the pro shop and they will happily slot you in. May you all travel safely to your holidays and have a wonderful Christmas.

“See you all again next year for another year of good golfing,” said Harvey Scott.
