SAPS cautions residents to be careful over the Easter holidays

Residents are warned to be vigilant these coming Easter holidays.

As Easter approaches, Springsites will be going away either on holiday, to visit loved ones or on religious journeys.

The Springs SAPS issues a warning to residents to keep themselves and their homes safe.

“Residents should make sure that their homes are locked up and there are no points of entry for criminals to access,” said Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala.

He adds that people should refrain from posting anything on social media that would indicate they are not at their residence.

“Thieves monitor social media platforms to see who is and who is not at their home. Sharing memories is nice but residents should wait until they are back home to post.”

He urges residents to not drink and drive nor should they drink in public places.

“Drinking in public places such as a park is an offence and you will get arrested for it.”

Tshabalala says people should do their best to respect laws put in place to keep them safe.

“We, along with the local CPF, are trying to contain and curb crime within the town.

“Residents must do their bit to help like reporting any suspicious activities or vehicles.”

He says those who are staying behind these holidays should make sure doors and gates are locked in the evenings.

“Residents with pet doors should make sure they are secure as they can serve as entry points for thieves.”

Tshabalala also cautions people who will be socialising in public places or in their cars away from their homes.

“Please be careful as idling cars are vulnerable to hijackings.”

He leaves parting words this coming Easter season.

“The Springs SAPS under the leadership of the acting station commander Colonel Eric Mhlongo, wish you safe travels and a wonderful Easter.”
