SAPS operation sees several arrests

The Crime Prevention Unit led the operation, which came about because of the many house burglaries reported in the Bakerton area.

A well-coordinated intelligence-driven joint operation by the Springs SAPS established to track down suspects in a house robbery paid off when officers arrested 13 suspects for various crimes on May 22.

The Crime Prevention Unit led the operation, which came about because of the many house burglaries reported in the Bakerton area.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the crime unit members traced the perpetrators using leading information about the crime.

“Officers arrested one person for a house burglary and two for possession of stolen property with an active case,” said Tshabalala.

“The police received a tip-off on the same date about people burning copper in the area. Upon further investigation, officers arrested eight suspects for possession of copper and two others for possession of drugs.”

Springs SAPS station commander Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi hailed the members for the well-coordinated and successful operation that saw the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

“Buthelezi is always leading from the front with boots on the ground because he heads some operations himself,” said Tshabalala.
