Trailblazing entrepreneur receives Siciliano dell’Anno award

Springsite Franco D’Arrigo has made the town proud with his latest accolade of being awarded the Siciliano dell’Anno (Sicilian businessman of the year) award recently. D’Arrigo’s accomplishment highlights his perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit.

Born to a Sicilian miner who immigrated to South Africa, D’Arrigo’s humble beginnings as a blockman in his youth paved the way for his pivotal role in establishing Elco Steel Dealers alongside his parents.

He expressed that community involvement and contribution are among the traits that he had to demonstrate to qualify.

“I also had to uphold strong business ethics, tenacity, entrepreneurship, business success, embody humbleness and be of Sicilian descent to make it through. I am humbled, honoured and proud to be recognised for my work,” said D’Arrigo.

Although the award came as unexpected, D’Arrigo says he felt elated, surprised, humbled and proud.

“My heart beat out my chest,” he said.

He expressed that his most significant supporters have been his family, the community and people in his life.

Going forward D’Arrigo aims to continue to strive to make a positive impact in the community to keep empowering the less advantaged and to care for those around him.

“I will keep aspiring to be the best person and businessman I can be. Not forgetting to trust and thank God for my journey.”

D’Arrigo’s guiding principle is, “It is nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”
