Six motorists arrested for speeding in Selection Park

All six law breakers are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.

On January 15, between the hours of 05:00 and 09:00, members of the EMPD High Speed Unit arrested five male motorists and one female motorist between the ages 20 and 35 for exceeding the speed limit of 60km/h in Selection Park.

Members of the EMPD Specialised Services set up high-speed monitoring equipment on Nigel Road to check adherence to the speed limit of 60km/h for that roadway.

They stopped six motor vehicles, a gold VW Amarok bakkie, a white Nissan Navara 4×4 bakkie, a white Honda BRV, a blue BMW, a grey Suzuki and a white Toyota Quantum for failing to comply with the designated speed limit.

The motorists were recorded to be driving at 136km/h, 108km/h, 106km/h and 107km/h, respectively. All drivers, including a woman, were immediately handcuffed and placed under arrest for exceeding the speed limit.

Speeding is one of the major contributing factors to road fatalities and failure to comply with the speed limit will result in motorists facing the full might of the law.

All six law breakers were detained at Springs Police Station and they are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
