WATCH: Third time unlucky: Meat Hub Butchery window destroyed in another taxi accident

The brakes of the vehicle allegedly failed, leading to a collision between the taxi and the business’ display window.

The Meat Hub Butchery owners were shocked when a taxi rammed into their window on Monday morning. Owner Gert Coetzer says he received a call from his wife telling him to rush to their business because of an accident.

“I was on the way to drop off our son at school when I got the call that a Quantum had rammed into our display window.”

This matter is frustrating for Coetzer because this was the third time something like this had happened.

“Taxi drivers want to avoid waiting in traffic like everyone else and will then try to get to the other side of the pavement. It has resulted in the expensive exercise of having to replace this window three times already.”

He says the traffic is dreadful in the mornings.

“There are children and others in constant danger because of reckless driving. There is a mini taxi rank behind the BP filling station, but it seems nobody wants to use it.”

Coetzer details the extent of the damage.

“The display glass is specially reinforced. It probably would not be fixed today, so there are the added costs of getting security until it is fixed. The freezer in front of the glass has also broken. It would not switch on.”

The driver alleged that the Quantum’s brakes failed, causing him to lose control. The EMPD was on the scene.
