Crackdown leads to multiple arrests linked to house robberies and burglaries in Springs
Crime prevention organisations worked together to make Springs a little more safe again.
A collaborative effort between the Springs SAPS, Springs rural safety sector commander, the Hawks and Strubenvale CPF led to the arrest on Wednesday of a group of men believed to be responsible for a spate of house burglaries and robberies in the area.
The suspects have been linked to at least five active cases that have been opened in the month. Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala narrates how the arrests were made.
“A lookout was issued for a suspicious vehicle, a white Chevrolet utility, in the Strubenvale area, believed to be involved in recent house break-ins and a robbery.
“Following a thorough search, the vehicle was spotted, and a swift takedown was conducted, resulting in the arrest of five suspects found in possession of burglary tools.”
Tshabalala further adds that the suspects were positively linked to a recent house robbery and break-in, in Springs.
The suspects were detained at Springs SAPS and the vehicle was seized for further investigation.
“All evidence was booked in for processing.”

Some of the seized items were:
• A large amount of house burglary implements
• Multiple sets of gloves
• Multiple balaclavas
• Sets of false licence plates
• A vehicle used in the commission of a crime.
Upon further investigation, a firearm that was stolen during a house break-in last week in Strubenvale was recovered.
“The suspects will appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.”
A sixth suspect in connection to the group and its crimes was arrested and booked at Naledi SAPS in Soweto. House break-in elements were also found and seized as evidence.
The station commander Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi applauded the crime prevention members and the CPF for their swift response and making sure that they leave no stone unturned to combat crime.
“The safety of our community and their properties is our priority,” he said.
