Liebherr Africa Springs team cleans up for Mandela Day
In honour of Mandela Day, Liebherr Africa employees rolled up their sleeves to clean alongside Vlakfontein Road, showing that teamwork can drive lasting community change.
Liebherr Africa’s Springs employees joined forces to clean the area next to Vlakfontein Road in commemoration of Mandela Day on July 18.
The idea came from the managing director, Dieter Schmid, who asked the employees to organise an initiative that would make a lasting impact in the community.
The team comprised employees from various departments, including general workers, apprentices, the logistics team and Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ).
One of the SHERQ employees, Emsie Swanepoel, highlighted the importance of employees coming together to make an impact in the community.

“Working together is what makes the biggest change. It creates a sense of unity. There have been people who drove past saying thank you, and it motivates us to keep going,” she said.
The company carried out various programmes across the country for Mandela Day, including school outreaches, a braai for an old age home, and gathering food for the SPCA.
They cut down overgrown grass and trees and also cleaned the sidewalks and the road. One of the employees, Paulina Nyoni, said she couldn’t have chosen a better way to spend her day.
“It is fulfilling to come here and work hard to keep my community clean,” she said.
