Springs SAPS bids farewell to two dedicated officers

The Springs community is mourning the loss of Sergeant Themba Tshabalala and Warrant Officer Matsebe Maila, two police officers remembered for their service, sacrifice, and deep involvement in the community.

The Springs community is mourning the loss of two dedicated police officers whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Sergeant Themba Tshabalala (42), the Springs SAPS communications officer, died on Monday night after a battle with illness in hospital, while Warrant Officer Matsebe Maila (51) died on September 12 after also succumbing to illness.

Maila had served for 23 years as an active member and, before his death, served as a court orderly at Springs Magistrate Court.
Tshabalala served the SAPS for 16 years. He first served at the former cluster office and as a detective.

Before his death, he served actively as a social crime prevention member and a communication officer involved in the community.

The station commander, Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi, shared a heartfelt message of condolence for the fallen officers, saying their passing leaves a deep void within the SAPS.

“With their loss, the number of officers we have laid to rest since the beginning of 2025 now stands at four. Each of them served with dedication, and their absence is profoundly felt,” Buthelezi said.

Their memorial services will be held today (Thursday). Maila will be remembered at the Springs SAPS boardroom, while Tshabalala’s service will take place at the Bakerton Community Hall at 10:00.
