EMPD nabs 21 in eastern region crackdown

A three-day police operation across the eastern region led to 21 arrests for crimes ranging from assault to malicious damage to property.

EMPD Bronberg precinct officers arrested 21 people, aged 23 to 45, in Putfontein, Benoni, Springs and Daveyton from October 1 to 3.

Officers conducted several operations, including stop-and-searches, arresting eight people for being undocumented in Benoni and Springs.

In Putfontein, the EMPD arrested five males for malicious damage to property and assault, including domestic violence and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The EMPD added that the Bronberg precinct officers arrested three females for allegedly assaulting a victim while sitting at her house.

“The suspects allegedly entered and told the victim they would ‘teach her a lesson’ before assaulting her,” police said.

In Daveyton, officers arrested four males for assaulting a victim they accused of stealing a phone, and another man for a separate assault case.

All the arrested suspects were taken to different police stations and will soon appear before various magistrates’ courts.
