Fire engulfs second-floor flat in Springs CBD

A bachelor flat at the corner of 2nd Street and 5th Avenue was destroyed by fire on February 16. Investigations into the cause are under way.

A flat at the corner of 2nd Street and 5th Avenue in the Springs CBD was engulfed in flames in the evening hours of February 16.

Ekurhuleni Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and brought the fire on the second floor of the building under control, where a bachelor flat had caught fire.

According to City of Ekurhuleni DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, the fire is suspected to have originated from the balcony.

“The fire crews were able to bring the fire under control, protecting adjacent rooms and preventing the spread of the fire.

“Search-and-rescue operations were conducted after the fire was extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported during this incident,” he said.

He said fire safety investigators will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the possible cause. Ntladi urged residents to exercise caution when using electrical appliances and heating devices.
