Pollak Park blaze destroys vacant house

The CoE's emergency services responded to a house fire in Pollak Park on February 28.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to a devastating structural fire in Pollak Park on February 28.

Emergency dispatchers received an urgent call around 16:00 reporting a residential fire.

According to City of Ekurhuleni DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, the firefighting crew was immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, teams found the 11-room house completely engulfed in flames. They worked swiftly to contain and extinguish the blaze; however, everything burned down,” he said.

He added that no occupants were inside the home when the fire broke out.

“The owner of the house allegedly stays somewhere in KwaZulu-Natal, and there is no one staying there,” Ntladi said.

He added that the cause of the fire is still unknown. Ntladi said it seemed that the house was in a dilapidated state.

“We saw no sign of furniture in the house, and the wooden floors contributed to the fast spread of the flames,” he added.
