UPDATE: 11th woman found dead in Ekurhuleni as police probe suspected strangulation
Investigations continue following the discovery of a young woman's body in a Springs veld.
Police have confirmed that a body found in Struisbult today (September 27) is that of a woman estimated to be 20 years old.
The discovery marks the 11th woman found dead in the Ekurhuleni area in recent weeks. SAPS members are on the scene together with forensics specialists.
Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni addressed the media on the scene.
“The victim was found partially unclothed with her top lifted up with her pants still on,” he said.
He added that the victim had an injury to her neck indicating she had possibly been strangled.
“She was found with her body facing up and there are signs of strangulation,” Mthombeni said.
Mthombeni added that investigations are ongoing and the victim is yet to be identified.
While this is the 11th victim found in Ekurhuleni, it is the second in the Springs area.
On September 15, the body of a woman was found along Moshoeshoe Street in Kwa-Thema.
She was identified as Dineo Evelyn Motapane (38).
