Operation Prosper arrests more than 50 undocumented foreigners in Gugulethu informal settlement

Police and the SANDF conducted a joint operation targeting illegal immigration with those arrested expected to appear in court.

A joint operation between the SANDF and Springs SAPS resulted in the arrest of over 50 undocumented migrants in the Gugulethu/Everest informal settlement on July 13.

According to Springs police spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, Operation Prosper cracked down on illegal immigration.

“During the operation, various premises and identified hotspots were visited where individuals were requested to produce valid identification and immigration documentation.

“Those found without the required legal documentation were detained for contravention of the Immigration Act,” Zwane said.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
