Golfers and businesses are invited to support four local organisations at the Easterns Nomads Andrew Mentis Charity Golf Day, taking place at Benoni Lake Golf Club on September 19.

The annual fundraiser, hosted by Easterns Nomads, raises money through the Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund, which has supported charitable causes for more than six decades.

Over the years, Nomads Golf Club members across South Africa have raised more than R50 million to fund projects that have transformed lives and strengthened communities.

This year’s event is being led by Easterns Nomads vice-captain Awie Schutte and the Andrew Mentis committee, which selected four local beneficiaries.

“Every golfer has the opportunity to change someone’s life simply by teeing it up,” said Schutte.

The beneficiaries include:

• Little Eden Society, which has provided lifelong care for people with profound intellectual disabilities for more than 50 years and is home to about 300 residents.
• SOWLE (Soar On Wings Like Eagles) Centre supports children with Down syndrome and other special educational needs through specialised education and family support.
• Apricot Tree offers educational and developmental programmes for children living with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.
• Brainy Birds completes the list of beneficiaries, providing rehabilitation, conservation and lifelong care for more than 300 rescued companion parrots.

Eastern Nomads has a history of supporting community projects through the charity golf day.

Following the 2025 event, the club funded tracking equipment for the African Pangolin Working Group, improvements and equipment for Didasko Day Care Centre, air-conditioning installations at Con Amore School and an industrial washing machine for Little Eden.

The 2026 event is a Betterball Stableford format at R2 500 per four-ball and hole sponsorships at R5 000. Entries close on September 17.

Schutte encouraged golfers, businesses and community members to get involved, saying every entry, sponsorship and contribution will help improve the lives of people and organisations making a meaningful impact in local communities.
