UPDATE: Casseldale sewage problem linked to damaged pump, city says

The city says foreign objects caused damages to the pump and repairs are expected to finish soon.

The City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said repairs to the damaged pump on Fryer Road in Casseldale are expected to be completed soon.

This comes after an article by the Springs Advertiser, ‘Sewage blockage leaves Casseldale resident frustrated’, where a resident expressed frustration with a sewage problem in Fryer Road.

Dlamini explained that the pump was damaged some time ago after foreign objects caused a blockage.

He said that while the pump is being repaired, municipal teams have been carrying out regular level control to provide relief to the system.

Dlamini added that the work includes the use of a vacuum truck but warned that this is not a permanent solution.

“Level control is to provide relief to the system but it is not a permanent solution. So, from time to time there can be a spillage,” he said.

According to Dlamini, the damaged pump was removed and is currently being repaired.

“The issue is not a blockage but a damaged pump that was taken out for repairs,” said Dlamini.

Residents who continue to experience problems are encouraged to log calls with the city’s call centre.
