Reading the article in Advertiser November 13 regarding the revamping of the War Memorial in Third Street.
Is this really a good idea?
Not taking anything away from the soldiers who lost their lives in the wars but it has served its purpose and couldn’t they be better remembered on a plaque at the senior citizens’ club where many more people will see it and who are of the age that can respect them more?
No doubt the costs involved to do the restoration are going to be considerable, money which I think could be better spent repairing roads, water, sewage, cutting trees, rubbish removal and street cleaning – all problems that had their own stories in this week’s Advertiser.
As an ex-Springs resident and businessman I can puke when I ride through the town and see to what extent it has degraded.
Every street is littered with rubbish and hawkers on pavements forcing what pedestrians there are to have to walk into the street to get past.
It is a real shame when one remembers the days when there were lovely shops and still some control and dignity in this town.
Ex and glad I am.
Arthur Christy.
