I’m writing in the hope the Springs Advertiser or residents of Springs could be of assistance.
I’m trying to trace the family of the late Wilfred George Glenham Robinson, who died in late 2019, a resident of Springs.
I am compiling a reference guide on the Jack Hindon Medal (pictured), of which only 18 were ever awarded to members of the now-defunct SADF Commando units, for meritorious service in the Commandos.
Sergeant Major Robinson, one-time Regimental Sergeant Major of the Springs Commando, was one of the recipients, being awarded his JHM in 1974.
He served with Transnet and retired after 40 years of service and he was a resident of Strubenvale.
I am very keen to communicate with any relative, or any other individual, in the hope of acquiring a picture of Robinson, preferably in uniform. The purpose of the book is to document all recipients for prosperity, and as such a small biography of each recipient, together with applicable photos is required.
