Mom started cleaning up Luan’s room.
She found some odd socks and a pair of jocks in the process.
I eyed them out.
Pity I’d missed those – they would have provided some chewy entertainment when my humans were out gallivanting without me.
She ripped off duvets and hoovered under the bed.
I thought oh-oh, who’s coming to visit now?
Then she went off one day and told me she was going to bring me back a surprise.
I humfed onto the couch and sulked a bit.
Why couldn’t I go with to fetch the surprise?
Silly Fudgie, mom said. You are not allowed at the airport.
I waited and waited.
Eventually got off the couch and shed many thousands of magical fibres on Alpha’s chair.
Still nobody arrived.
Went upstairs and rooted around in the bin. Could not go into the spare room because that wretched mom had shut the door.
Ages later I heard the car arrive and waddled down the stairs and waited for the door to open.
My wiggledy whiskers! Granma!
Well this is a nice surprise. Mom was right.
I did the wiggly pig dance around Granma’s feet and welcomed her into the house.
I nudged her in the direction of the stoep where my balls are stashed.
She nearly tripped over me.
Ooopsie – careful now – we don’t want to injure the precious doglet now do we?
Mom gave me a bit of an evil eye and wagged her finger at me.
Fudges, Grandma is not going to play ball with you now.
Step aside please and let her settle down in peace.
No worries – I can wait five minutes.
I dashed off, found my other ball and positioned it neatly next to Granma’s toe.
Every now and then I’d roll it in her general direction.
Mom glared at me.
Come on Fudgie – I’ll play with you.
Granma is tired and there’s going to be no ball playing today… and get that revolting squidgy ball away from her foot.
Feh! Not the same but better than nothing.
This morning we all went off to see Dr Dean.
He declared me well and healthy again.
He was also chuffed as can be because when mom put me on that nasty scale… I’d lost 1kg in the past month.
Hroof hroof – maybe now I can have some decent snacks again.
