You did your company proud

I was at the opening of the new Makro Carnival store on April 20.

What an experience!

We arrived at the premises at 5.45am with hundreds of other vehicles and probably in excess of 4 000 shoppers already gathered there, awaiting the opening of the store.

Employees in orange bibs walked the queue to enquire whether one needed a Makro card.

A form was filled out and by the time one reached the main entrance, the card was ready for collection.

Employees in yellow bibs also walked the queue to ask whether one intended buying a television set.

A form was filled out and, once again, by the time the main entrance was reached, the TV licence had been verified and the customer was handed a slip confirming same.

Water sachets were also distributed and mobile toilets provided.

Everything, from managing the traffic, to the queues, appeared to run like a well-oiled machine.

Everywhere there was security and absolute control.

At 8.45am we reached the entrance, a trolley was furnished and, upon entering the store, an assistant immediately came forward to enquire which items I had come for and personally took me to the correct aisles and loaded my purchases into the trolley.

At each end of every aisle there was an assistant on duty and each one knew exactly what was in their particular aisle or directed one to the correct aisle.

Although the paying queue appeared to be long, it took less than 10 minutes before I was helped by an extremely courteous and efficient cashier.

Hats off to all who were involved in this enormous logistical exercise.

You did your company proud!
