I cannot convey enough the shock I felt when I recently read an article about two teenage boys who shot and killed a cat with an airgun.
The boys proudly posted a photo of themselves with the dead feline, airgun and hunting knife on social media.
Needless to say, there was an outbreak of outraged people and the boys apologised.
This has shocked me to the core after realising that people can so cruelly abuse animals and feel nothing.
This may have been someone else’s pet, someone’s ‘child’ in a way.
I see so many stray animals regularly walk the streets of Springs and wonder what they have to endure at the hands of human beings, who are so cruel and hateful.
If I was in a position, I would want to save every stray animal I could, but circumstances do not allow me to do so.
I urge people not to injure these defenceless animals, but rather to report them to an animal organisation that may be able to give them a home, a better life.
Please do not kill or injure for the fun of it, imagine the pain they must be feeling.
These animals cannot beg for mercy, or help themselves when they are injured.
They do not understand why they are being hurt.
It is a human’s duty to protect and care for animals, not senselessly kill them for entertainment.
