British boys run out of town

The British were taught a lesson when the South African U/18 baseball team beat the Great Britain (GB) team during their tour of SA during the past two weeks.

The visitors arrived in SA on August 17, taking on the SA team as well as regional teams on their two-week tour.

Springs-born Jarrod Pretorius formed part of the GB management team, filling the role of assistant coach, along with fellow South African ex-pat Will Lintern, the head coach of the British team and the director of the Great Britain Baseball Academy.

Pretorius, who immigrated to the UK in 2008, is currently playing for the Harlow Nationals and was the most valued player for 2012.

This Veritas College old boy has played in the National Baseball Champs for the past two years and currently coaches MK Bucks and Coyotes baseball teams in Milton Keynes.

But despite the South African connection, the SA team did not give the British team an inch as they performed well during the tour.

The SA team were the victors at the end of the tour, which finished at Boksburg Stadium, taking gold, with the British boys coming in second place.
