A year of Esda-Amazing
The Esda-Amazing Jukskei Club celebrated its first birthday on October 15.
The event was opened with prayer, followed by a few jokes by the MC James Williams and everyone singing folk songs.
Last year, Vic and Corrie Stanton and the late Gene Els, joined forces to bring more life into Esda Retirement Village by introducing Jukskei.
“The interest was overwhelming and the official opening took place on September 14,” says committee member Corrie.
According to the MC the celebrations had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
But whether the celebrations was held a month later, members, friends and families all gathered for this joyous celebration.
“Currently the club has 15 members and we have a team called Esda-Amazing,” says James.
One track was just not enough for the eager Jukskei players, thus the necessity for another track forced the club to have another one built.
“The club only participate in social events as it is not a registered club,” says member Anton Steyl, who is a member of the Impala Jukskei Club.
The club recently participated in three social games against Malan Nel Service Centre and although they lost their games, the members believe they came second not last.
The player of the month gets a floating trophy and at Tuesday and Thursday mornings games, a player of the day walks away with a pin.
Corrie adds the games open doors to friendships and it keeps them healthy and fit.
All the members and guests were spoiled with snacks, hotdogs and icecream cones.
