Springs athletes claim medals at African Kurash Championships

After qualifying at the Kurash South African Championships in May, Springs duo Willem van Wyk and Caydon van Loggenberg returned from the continental competition with medals.

Springs’ Willie van Wyk and Caydon van Loggenberg represented South Africa at the 22nd African Kurash Championship, which took place in Johannesburg from August 6 to 10.

Van Wyk claimed second place in the Masters division, while Van Loggenberg came third in the Pre-Cadet division.

The duo from Atlas Judo Club in Edelweiss qualified in May at the Kurash South African Championships.

Van Wyk expressed joy and shared that the Africa Championships reminded him why they do this.

“To stand on the podium with Caydon in third place in Kurash and me in second is a privilege I will never take for granted. We fought, we learnt, and we made our country and our town proud,” he said.
