An epic win for Old Boys

It was an epic win for Springs Old Boys' Premier side on Sunday.

The played CBC Boksburg and knew they were facing a tough game as the opposition is second on the log.

“We batted first on a bowlers paradise wicket as there was lots of movement for the bowlers,” says captain Warren Woolley.

Old Boys didn’t have a great start and was in trouble early in the innings and were all bowled out for 153 runs after 43 overs.

José van der Berg was the top scorer for the day scoring 42, with Wickus Germishuizen and George Viviers also contributing with the bat to give Old Boys a total to defend.

Warren says CBC Boksburg was confident that it was going to win the game but they had other plans for that.

During lunch the captain and his boys had a chat and were confident that they could win the game with only 153 runs to defend.

“We have a stronger, faster bowling attack than they have,” is what the Premier side said.

They bowled CBC out for 94 runs after only 29 overs and won by 59 runs.

Warren says his bowlers stepped up to the plate, bowling aggressively and extremely well, “And with no mistakes in the field, we were able to bowl them all out for only 94.”

The top bowler of the day was Jonathan Woolley with outstanding bowling: six overs, three wickets for 17 runs.

George Viviers bowled six overs, two wickets for 20 runs, Dalton Smallberger, seven overs, two wickets for 19 runs and Jared James bowled an impressive six overs, two wickets for 13 runs.

“All the bowlers bowled well,” he adds.
