A boxing tournament was held at the Bert Collins Boxing Club on Saturday.

At 12.30pm, various boxers from all over Gauteng tested their stamina and boxing skills.

Two locals climbed through the ring in the 32kg category.

Minnet Dicks and Kaylen Lochner, both local boxers, were facing each other over three one-and-a-half minute rounds.

Minnett was the strongest of the two and won on 3-1 points with a judges’ decision.

Geannè Dicks lost her fight against a much stronger opponent with a 2-1 judges’ decision.

“It was her first time in the ring and she did well,” says coach and judge, Jeanetter Dyzel.

Another fighter who entered the ring for the first time is Marnes Lochner and although he put up a good fight, he lost the fight with 2-1 points judges’ decision.

Wouter Delport lost against a much stronger opponent with 3-0 points decision by the four judges.

Yanick Maseke battled it out against Camba Chaka in the 66kg category and put up a good fight from the start.

He won the fight with a judges’ decision, 2-1 points.

The 60kg category fighter Dirk Locher was beaten by a technical knockout and so was Kongo Ifosela who was fighting in the 99kg category.

Jeanette says the boxers did well, but they will focus on the training to guarantee more wins in the next tournament taking place in Randfontein on Saturday.
