Results of the Ginger Golf Day
The Ginger golf day was held at Pollak Park on Saturday.
Marco Schalkwyk is the winner with 38 points on a count out and he received the Ginger Campbell-Atkins trophy.
Brian Fox came in second with 38 points on a count out and Piet Swiegers third with 37 points.
The Longest Day goes to Juan Gunter with 10 points.
History
It was originally called the Link Belts trophy and was started more than 35 years ago.
Later, it became known as the Van Dyk trophy.
Ginger Campbell-Atkins played in and took over the running of the golf day about 30 years ago.
The players at the time decided as Ginger had been running the golf day for a long period, the trophy be called The Ginger Campbell-Atkins trophy, the name has stuck.
Ian Gould, organiser of the event, says Ginger stopped playing about eight years ago due to poor health.
Peter Power ran the Gingers Golf Day up to 2012 and after about 10 years, decided it was time for someone else to take over.
Ian has been playing in the Gingers Day since 2009 and as Peter Power retired, he volunteered and have been the organiser since 2013.
He says they have a great bunch of guys, and have grown the group from about 32 players to about 48 players.
