Two Springs cricket teams competing

It was a tight cricket league game between Springs Old Boys' Premier and KwaThema's Takers XI on Sunday.

Takers XI won the toss and chose to bat first.

The opening batsman for the KwaThema team, Welsh Mavumengwane, was the only batsman who scored 44 runs and partnered with the 10 other bowlers he took four wickets.

Old Boys’ spin bowler Travis Victor boasts with bowling figures of seven overs, four wickets for 17 runs.

The local team’s wicket keeper Wickus Germishuizen, who came back to South Africa in September, scored 42 runs with his bat.

Takers XI restricted the Premier side batsmen by continuously taking wickets and restricting the run rate.

Taking 117 runs, Old Boys’ were chasing for 118 runs, but the Takers XI bowlers put up a good fight and Old Boys’ managed to win by one wicket.

KwaThema’s uNjabulo Zondi took four wickets bowling 10 overs.

Lionel Joubert, chairman of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club, says it was good bowling and fielding by the KwaThema side and they kept the local team on their toes.

“This match was played in good spirits although it was a tightly contested league match.”

Coming from the Premier team captain Ernie Germishuizen, he is proud of his team.
