Pair receives life sentences for murder

Two men were recently sentenced to life imprisonment following the murder of a man aged 45 years.

The two accused Bhutana Clifford Hleza (24) and Jabu Sunday Mnguni (33) received life sentences for the assault and murder of the late Collen Timba. Infact there were three when the murder was committed; Raymond Hleza (29) was the also involved.

The murder was committed on August 7 in 2011at about midnight. Information from the police states that they entered the house of the late Mr Timba; stabbed him and assaulted him together with his family. They continued assaulting the victim, hitting him with a hammer on his head until he could not move. They then took clothes as well. It is said the children were traumatised by their act.

The first suspect Raymond Hleza was seen the following day on August 8 by members of the community who assaulted him to death. The remaining two, Jabu Sunday Mnguni and Bhutana Hleza were sentenced on March 14 at the Witbank Regional Court.

On count one they both receive life sentences in prison, on count two robbery 15 years each and count three assault, they both receive ten years each.

“In terms of the section 230 (2) of act 51/77 the sentences on count two and three will run concurrently with sentence on count one,” reads part of the judgment.
