Police educate residents of Phola about domestic violence during campaign

New Largo knows where to go when faced with GBV.

Ensuring that all the local residents are given knowledge about the different types of abuse is a goal that Phola SAPS wants to achieve.

The police officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Nape Mtlala conducted a domestic violence campaign in New Largo section.

Residents receiving pamphlets provided by police officials during their campaign at New Largo on Friday, May 13.

The officers held the campaign on Friday, May 13 and people welcomed the police with open arms.

The police station started this campaign last year, visiting sections in Phola with the aim of educating and ending domestic violence within families.

The campaign also seeks to help victims to speak out and have perpetrators brought to book.

The station commander was accompanied by his Vispol team including the communications official Sergeant Petros Ntuli, CIMAC official Sergeant Nonhlanhla Monama and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) led by the Deputy Chairperson Mr Jabulani Shabangu.

The Community in Blue members, Phola SAPS Women’s Network, Phola SAPS Men for Change and FOVOC (Foundation for Victims of Crime) were among the other stakeholders who participated in the event.

Residents from the New Largo section were surprised by the visit of law enforcement organisations yet were also grateful for it as they were left educated and were given pamphlets for them to read.

“We plan on doing more outreaches to other parts of our community. It is very important to give people such knowledge so that they do not easily become victims of domestic violence crimes,” said Sergeant Ntuli.
