Pedestrian killed in Klipfontein crash
The cause of the fatal multi-vehicle crash in Klipfontein remains under investigation.
A pedestrian was killed in a serious crash at the intersection of Watermeyer and Stevenson streets in Klipfontein yesterday.
The collision on July 14 involved a Hyundai, a taxi and a small truck.
According to Julius Maporo, owner of Bophele Emergency Services, the pedestrian was struck by the Hyundai while standing at the traffic lights.
He said the Hyundai then collided with a taxi, which subsequently skidded into the small truck.
Following the collision, the Hyundai became lodged in the taxi, while the pedestrian was trapped beneath the vehicle.
The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

Maporo said the exact cause of the collision remains unclear and will be determined through further investigation.
He added that the taxi driver escaped unharmed, while four other people sustained moderate injuries and were treated by emergency services.
“I have attended many accidents over the years, but this is one of the most heartbreaking incidents I have ever responded to,” Maporo said.
According to information from the scene, the pedestrian had been standing at the traffic lights asking motorists for assistance when the incident occurred.

Maporo said the tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers pedestrians face near busy roads.
He urged people not to stand in the path of traffic, saying accidents can happen unexpectedly and that no one can predict when tragedy may strike.
“This incident shows that anything can happen on the road. We need more awareness to protect people who are exposed to moving traffic every day,” he said.
The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
