Renewing your licence in Bronkhorstspruit made easier with driving school initiative
Sion Driving School is taking people to Bronkhorstspruit for driver’s licence applications, renewals, and learner’s licences.
Aspiring motorists in eMalahleni face severe delays after safety issues forced the closure of the main licensing office.
The Department of Employment and Labour shut the facility due to safety concerns, giving the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) six months to resolve the building’s defects. With the main office shut, eMalahleni has no operational facility for learners’ or drivers’ licence testing.
Alternative arrangements
“We advise motorists to go to surrounding towns,” said DCSSL spokesperson Moeti Mmusi.
Pastor Marius Louwrens, from Sion Driving School, has stepped up to transport motorists to Bronkhorstspruit for testing and licence renewals.

“We have to take matters into our own hands to make a difference and have opted to take motorists to Bronkhorstspruit to get on the road lawfully.”

Interim services
Municipal spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng has not yet responded to a media query to find out why the municipality has not maintained the building, which is a municipal asset, even though the licensing office falls under the DCSSL.
The DCSSL has moved some of the operation to the Piet Koornhof Building, and motorists can go and enquire if their driver’s licences are ready to collect from the interim office.
The satellite licensing office only does vehicle licence renewals.
