Ikhaya Athletics Club in it

He says in the beginning of the year everybody made resolutions and he also had one as well

Veteran athlete Nodindwa Mtsweni has formed a new athletics club.

He says in the beginning of the year everybody made resolutions and he also had one as well.

He stated that one of his resolutions was to start an athletics club, hence Ikhaya Athletics Club.

“I have a very rich history in running, in my 40 years experience in running, I have the skills, the passion and I want to accomplish my goals,” said Mtsweni.

He said he started on January 1 this year to implement his plans for the year.

He said he wanted to organise 40 members for his club and organise even his neighbours.

His motto for the club is ‘Charity begins at home’ and some quotes from the bible, Genesis 1:26:

God said: “Lets us make mankind in our image”.

The club is on the verge of being registered in the Mpumalanga athletics association as it met all the criteria and Mtsweni is only waiting for financial sponsorship.

Mtsweni has also written some proposals for sponsors.

Some members of the team attended their first race at Ermelo whereby some of them did well.

They are: Tsepho Monama (17) came second in the junior boys overall, Shellta Ndjana (18) came second in the junior girls and fifth overall, Zinhle Masango (18) third junior girls and sixth overall, Nthabiseng Sibanyoni (17) came seventh in the junior girls, Thulebona Thabethe (17) came ninth in the junior girls, Nodindwa Mtsweni came first in the masters 10 km race.

“Two more athletes from the club were at Paarl in Cape Town for the Sax Youth Championships. There are Ribone Jiyane who performed well in the 5 000m and was placed fourth. Frank Moloto got sick on the day of the race and could not compete in the race. The athletics community should watch out for Ikhaya athletes. We will take Mpumalanga by storm, watch the space,” added Mtsweni.
