Imagine that – the man behind the brain
The dark curls and glasses are barely visible above the screen as Clive Dorington starts to type enthusiastically.

A sudden burst of inspiration or a thought had popped into his head and now his brain is in overdrive.
We know him as a journalist, photographer and creative columnist for the WITBANK NEWS/ COSMOS GAZETTE and he spends his free time gaming, contributing and sharing ideas on gaming websites or blogging about whatever is on his mind.
Combining his hobbies and talent for writing, Clive had been given recognition for his input on IGN – an international and renowned site – and was listed last year as one of the top Wiki contributors.
“I got a call from Jared Petty from IGN, saying that they’re keeping an eye on me,” Clive had told happily. Soon enough Clive was given a spot on IGN’s All-Star list and became part of a very sought-after VIP group.
The All-Stars are chosen by IGN-editors and Clive was spotted for his ‘Wiki-contributions.’ Clive explained ‘Wiki-contributions’ saying that people can edit or give their own input on games, consoles and just about anything listed on IGN.
“I’ve been contributing to Wii U games mostly. I’ll play the game, but then also make notes,” Clive said. Taking notes and doing research is very important for a well-informed and insightful contribution.
Clive’s creative ideas and thinking is something he shares with his best friend, Ryan Pretorius. “I’ve known Ryan since high school. We would usually meet-up at coffee shops to discuss new ideas for stories or scripts.”
Ryan had studied Sound Engineering and Post Productions; and with Clive’s talent for writing the two friends came to the realisation that they may well be able to write and produce their own short film.
Lights, camera and a… “It’s not that easy,” Clive said. Although they have the very basic equipment and passion, a lot of hard work and long hours of video-editing goes into the production and filming to make the material half-presentable.
“So we’ve decided to do a few ‘practice projects’ first,” Clive told. With the help of a few friends (like eccentric actor-student: Jaco Swanepoel) they started filming ‘Running Static’ – a short skid about a runner who hears the most inner thoughts of people around him as he jogs by… realising that there is more to people than meets the eye.
“We’re planning more practise projects before we start with the short film, which we hope to enter in the film-festival one day,” Clive said. “We’re just having a lot of fun with it now.”
When this journo and All-Star is not busy gaming, writing or spending time with his family, his mind is always wandering off to create new ideas – like a short and hilarious skid about his cell phone ‘watching’ him.
Following ‘Housefly Aristocrats’ on Facebook gives one a bit more insight to the minds of Clive and his filming-buddies.
His blog ‘hangingcliff’ takes an even deeper journey into the mind of a disguised genius.
