Ubuntu Foundation takes healing to the streets of Schoongezicht

The Heart of Ubuntu Foundation brought the community together in Schoongezicht to promote mental health awareness, healing, and the power of open conversations.

The Heart of Ubuntu Foundation recently brought its message of healing and awareness directly to the streets of Schoongezicht in a powerful, community-driven initiative focused on mental health, emotional healing, and the importance of open conversations.

The foundation’s chairperson, Liza Swarts, said, “The fun walk was aimed at marching the streets of Schoongezicht as it was done back then when people were fighting for freedom. We want to bring the message to the streets, enough is enough. We are breaking the silence. People need to speak up and seek healing. They are not alone.”

The fun walk, held on June 16 alongside various sporting activities, brought together young people, families, professionals, and community stakeholders in a shared call for openness, support, and unity. The event aligned with the foundation’s guiding mission of ‘uplifting hearts and restoring lives’.

“Our event was holistic and educational. Soup was provided to the community, prepared by the AFM Church. We also had stalls, soccer, and netball activities,” Liza added.

She further explained that the foundation’s long-term goal is to strengthen mental health awareness and improve early identification of emotional and psychological challenges within communities.

“The aim was to break the silence. Our motto is ‘Healing starts with a conversation.’ We want the community to know they are not alone, that their voices matter, and that their lives matter. Your pain is our pain,” she said.
