Local branch of Nafcoc elect new leaders
The local branch of National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) held a re-launch and elections of new executive committee.
NAFCOC is an independent and non-profit business support organisation primarily, but not exclusively, serving the black community.
Its main objective is to promote and encourage the development of black business in South Africa and thereby draw the black majority into economic activity and decision-making.
It aims to promote a spirit of co-operation and unity among black business people, to encourage self-help in the black community and full participation in the economy of the country.
NAFCOC had also invited their stakeholder partners during the gathering, Mr Siphele Ndlovu represented Anglo, Mr Vusi Mabus from Absa and Mr Davis Moropane represented Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT) Provincial president of NAFCOC Mr Sydney Kunene thanked the members for their hard work but encouraged them to come out with new strategies to reach their goals. He told them to tap new skills for the benefit of the organisation.
“We need disciplined and hard working members in the organisation to take it to new heights. Form partnerships with stakeholders and government. Come with strategies and a programme of action to deliver to the people. Come with different approaches, resort in bulk buying like the foreigners and take NAFCOC to new heights.”
It was also announced during the gathering that NAFCOC’s 50th anniversary conference would be held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal from September 30 till October 2 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre.
“In addition, NAFCOC will publish a 50th anniversary history book and produce a television documentary celebrating black business success over the years while at the same time acknowledging the challenges of the lessons learnt,” reads a statement from NAFCOC.
The new executive members are: Mr Albert Hlatshwayo (chairperson), Mr Sipho Mabuza (deputy chairperson), Mr Dan Skosana (secretary), Ms F. Ngobe (vice secretary) and Mr Thabo Monareng (treasurer). There were additional members elected to the executive committee as well.
