Man caught on CCTV allegedly stealing laptop from a vehicle on Plumer Street

While the driver was getting something from the store, a thief found an easy way inside his car, which had been parked outside.

A stop at a store in Plumer Street turned into a costly lesson for a motorist who returned to his car completely unaware that a thief had already made off with valuable items.

According to Welcome Jiyane, the owner of the car, he parked his car outside a store on Plumer Street in the afternoon of May 28 and went to buy something.

“I had locked the car, but didn’t pull the doors to double-check,” he said.

Surprisingly, upon his return, he said he didn’t notice anything suspicious and drove off, only to realise the next day that his colleague’s laptop, which had been in his car, was missing.

That was when his memory took him back to his stop at the store, as that was the only place he had travelled to that day.

Fortunately, he managed to see the CCTV footage, which showed a man stealing the laptop bag from his car.

“Inside the bag was the laptop, charger, and some important documents,” Jiyane said.

The motorist has since been searching with no luck.

To fellow motorists, he advised that they should always exercise extra caution when parking in streets.

“Avoid leaving valuables such as laptops on seats or anywhere visible. Most importantly, after locking your car, always pull the doors to ensure that it is really locked,” he said.

Jiyane pleads with anyone who might have information that could help him get the items back to contact him at 076 952 5828.
