Three separate brutal carjackings prove no one is safe behind the steering wheel in eMalahleni.

Imagine sitting in your car one moment and fighting for your life the next. That terrifying reality became real for three motorists in eMalahleni who were targeted in separate carjacking and kidnapping incidents.

The latest incident happened on May 25 at around 20:00 in Ackerville.According to police, a motorist waiting inside a vehicle was attacked by two men who entered the vehicle before driving off with him still inside. During the ordeal, the suspects attempted to strangle him with a safety belt before abandoning him. The stolen vehicle was later recovered near Kromdraai on a gravel road.

Earlier that same day, at about 15:00 in KwaGuqa Extension 1, another motorist was reportedly approached by three men asking for directions before one allegedly produced a firearm. The victim was forced into the back seat of his vehicle, blindfolded, and later robbed while the suspects demanded banking details.

In another incident reported on May 23 at about 23:30 in Extension 9, a driver travelling alone at night allegedly stopped after another vehicle flashed its headlights at him. Armed men then reportedly forced him into the back seat of his own vehicle before abandoning him in an unknown area.

Warrant Officer David Ratau said, “Motorists are urged to be cautious, as carjacking incidents often involve suspects approaching vehicles at intersections or roadside stops. Avoid engaging with unknown persons, do not stop in isolated areas, and keep doors locked while driving. Any suspicious activity or attempted approach should be reported immediately to the police.”
