Secondary school calls for release of Nigerian girls

Pupils from Coronation Secondary School recently joined in the calling for the release of the abducted girls by the group Boko Haram in Nigeria.

The pupils and their teachers did that by reciting poetry, singing, dancing and praying. The pupils also prepared posters. Other groups dramatised the whole ordeal they imagine the girls went through, before they were abducted.

Their petition reads: “We continue to show deep concern and support to families of the abducted girls and give encouragement for all the international support Nigeria is receiving. Hoping, wishing and praying that all efforts are being put into rescuing them and ensure their safe return.

“More than 200 girls were recently abducted from their boarding school and plans are reported of them being sold as brides. We need the world to unite in efforts to save them. The young girls are being affected by a conflict they did not create, and their voices need to be heard. It can only be imagined, what these girls are going through. Their abductors have repeatedly said girls should not be educated.

We believe all children should have access to education, boy or girl, and should be protected from harm. We urge all world leaders to help by doing more to ensure the safe return of these girls.”

They said by signing the petition they express their solidarity with the kidnapped girls and call upon the world not to forget them, support all efforts to ensure their safe return, and ask all international agencies, organisations and groups to support efforts in Nigeria aimed at rescuing them.
