Mr Wenzel Singh takes a deep breath as he remembers rushing to where his brother-in-law had been waiting in his truck outside their residence in Zaaihoek.
On Wednesday evening, August 6, Kumeshen Padiachy was found wounded and bleeding next to the white Isuzu truck.
“We can’t say what happened. We don’t know what happened,” said devastated father, Vasentheray Padiachy, and son-in-law, Wenzel.
After the gunshots sounded, the family rushed to Kumeshen’s aid, but couldn’t find the perpetrators.
“Nothing was taken from him,” said Wenzel. “He still had his wallet on him, there was even cash lying on the floor of the truck.”
The motive for the attack was very unclear, as the suspects left the scene with no valuables. “It wasn’t a hijacking either. They would have taken the keys to the truck. They didn’t take anything at all,” Wenzel said, trying to figure out why anyone would just shoot at Kumshen.
Kumeshen’s lung and heart were pierced by the bullets fired at him and he died minutes after the incident.
“We rushed him to hospital, but it was too late,” Wenzel added sadly.
Vasentheray remained silent for a long time as he thinks about his loving son. Kumeshen would have celebrated his 30th birthday on August 13, but instead his family held a memorial service for him on Saturday August 9.
“He was like an angel that was sent to us,” Wenzel said as his father-in-law struggles to find the words through his grief. “If I could give anything, even my life, to get him back, I would.” The family will always remember Kumeshen as a loving, giving and hardworking father, son and friend.
“He made sure his father had it all – his family had it all. He took care of his wife and children,” Wenzel continued.
“The little time I had with him will be the most prescious time we’ve spent together,” added Kumeshen’s sister, Prenisha, who also misses her only brother that was taken from her so soon.
Kumeshen leaves behind his family, wife and two children (one- and three-years old).
A case of murder is currently being investigated by Witbank SAPS.
