Video: Kid knocked off his bicycle by truck
Louis Schumyn (19) from Hoër Tegniese Skool Witbank will continue his recovery after an accident in hospital and not write exams with fellow matriculants.
On Thursday, October 30 Louis made his way home on his bicycle towards Tasbet Park Extension 2.
Allegedly the robots were out at OR Tambo and Steve Bantu Biko intersection. Everyone waited their turn at the robot to go over.
Mr Jacques Benadie, who was driving a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, was allegedly turning right at the robot into Steve Bantu Biko.
Louis was riding down Steve Bantu Biko when a red and white LT Tipper, travelling in the same direction, allegedly went straight over the intersection. He crashed into Louis, throwing him off his bicycle and colliding with the front of Benadie’s bakkie.
Louis lay on the tar, seriously injured as they waited for emergency services to arrive.
Emergency personnel stabilised Louis and the truck driver, then they both were taken to Witbank Hospital.
Louis was treated for his injuries and was admitted into hospital.
“I went to see him in hospital and I hope he makes a full recovery,” said Mr Andre Strydom, principal of Hoër Tegniese Skool.
On Saturday, November 1 Louis was discharged from hospital and returned home to his parents.
“It’s amazing that my child is still alive. He is recovering slowly, one day at a time. He still needs to go for an operation, but as soon as that is done he will be much better,” said Ms Petro Schumyn, Louis mother.
